Brooklyn based self taught artist JJ Pinckney starts his artistic journey a few months
after finishing up a career in divsion 1 collegiate sports. FoundWonder was shortly birthed after spending some time researching the lack of artistic programs and resources in communities of color nationwide. From that moment a mission was created to segway more opportunities to the youth and create spaces to freely express themselves.
JJ's work echoes of several years practiced. His multidisciplinary artist approach has shown great success in just a small amount of time (Photography, graphic design, fashion design, creative direction). Experimenting with several techniques the voice within his work never ceases to amaze onlookers. "Looking past the obvious, close observation and engagement of the subject is my process. Some of my subjects are quite beautiful, others less so.
My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world around them, to discover beauty in unusual places. Specifically amplifying the rampant cultural disparities to the world, regardless of sensitivity, only regarding the truth through storytelling" The voice within his paintings have been compared to contemporary acts such as Picasso, Da Kooning, Jean Michele Basquiat, Norman Lewis, Noah Davis,
" I use my work to get you in the door, an invitation to a part of my mind that inst so easily accessed".
