JJ Pinckney (b. 1995), is a self taught multidisciplinary artist who specializes in abstract -figurative expressionist artworks that centers convictions of Neo- ancestralism. He innacts his calling through abstract portraiture, figurative story telling and sculpture. Without any prior sketch work, he encapsulates the soul of story telling and privy's ingeniously through philosophy, critical thinking, and color. The instinctual knowledge of his faith and spiritual lead practice allows him to channel freedoms lost through a quickly changing and evolving society. Through his careful envisioning of his acute observations, he imputes the abstract in ways that recollects the diversity of perception, which as a consequence then and now, labels the world.

Pinckney approaches his work with a sound and fury unapologetic to the contemporaries that surround the mainstream echoes of today. The blueprint of his work is constructed through the New York School of art of the 60s alongside unique 1980s expressionist graffiti artist. His provocation alleviates the canter of controlled or supervised artist, the process of his crafted expression deliver an uncanny erudition through race, gender and common difference.  His ancestry is studied and channeled like an apparatus inviting a unique presence of awareness, emotion, and curiosity.  He continues to undertake his ancestral guidance using literary ingenuity, research, and oral traditions granting an unfolding of truth through visual storytelling.

JJ continues to implement mutual aid through social justice restoration initiatives from his studio space in the heart of Crown Heights BK. Annual artist residencies for select artist are honored each year with an opportunity to provide guidance and studio hours for there duration at no cost. He strives to amplify the rampant cultural disparities to the world by facilitating these programs for black and minority artist of color.

"Close observations of the subject is my process. Some of my subjects are quite beautiful, others less so. Under no condition can a story be denied life or exploration"
